Completed in 2017, The Colonel is a five-story, urban infill mixed-use development located in the heart of Washington, D.C.’s rapidly evolving 9th Street Corridor. The project represents a thoughtful blend of historic preservation and new construction, contributing to the revitalization of one of the city's most dynamic neighborhoods.
The development involved the adaptive reuse of a 1920s-era structure, preserving its original façade while introducing 70 high-end residential units ranging from well-appointed studios to a spacious top-floor penthouse. The first floor features 8,200 square feet of street-level retail, activating the pedestrian experience and complementing the surrounding retail and dining offerings.
Residents enjoy a range of amenities designed for modern urban living, including a landscaped courtyard, rooftop deck with city views, private balconies, a catering kitchen for entertaining, controlled access, and a secure bike room.
The building is named after Colonel Robert Gould Shaw, commander of the first African American regiment in the U.S. Army during the Civil War. His legacy as a leader and advocate for racial equity is memorialized in the Shaw neighborhood, which bears his name.
